Board-certified pediatrician Janae Barker, DO, FAAP provides pediatric services such as newborn, well child and preventative care, adolescent medicine, treatment for common childhood illnesses and complex care management. She also is a certified lactation counselor for mothers in need of breastfeeding support and education.
Dr. Barker’s goal is to care for all children as if they are her own. Driven by her love of science, anatomy and people, she focuses on building relationships as a wonderful way to connect with and help people, as well as promote health and wellness.
Dr. Barker earned her doctorate of osteopathic medicine from Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Vallejo, where she was a National Health Service Corps Scholar. Afterwards, she completed a pediatric residency at the University of California, San Francisco in Fresno and then another as chief resident of Valley Children’s Pediatric Residency Program. This Madera-based program is affiliated with Stanford University.
She is a fellow of the American Board of Pediatrics and a member of the California Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of California and American Osteopathic Association. Her professional interests include community and legislative advocacy, tobacco control and prevention, rural medicine, leadership and mentorship, and breastfeeding medicine. In addition to English, she speaks conversational Spanish and Portuguese.
Growing up in the foothills of Exeter on a small ranch, Dr. Barker enjoyed country living, nature and raising livestock. When not at work, Dr. Barker spends time with her husband, daughters and Bella, a rescue dog. Other interests include gardening, baking, swimming and boating.
